Dear HLCA Owners,
100 days have come and gone.
Drinking from a firehose. Juggling chainsaws. Sprinting through a library. Just trying to stay afloat. All the idioms, plus some, apply.
I am grateful. I really mean it. I am honored to be here.
If I could be completely honest, coming in I feared that we were too large – 1,349 Laker families. What could everyone possibly have in common? Sure, the Lake is at the heart of this place. It may be what drew you here. But what really sold it? I imagine it was a certain lifestyle.
That picture you’re conjuring up…it is what we are focused on creating. A private club experience that you value and appreciate. Afterall, you “own” this place, and take a lot of pride in making it better. We understand our responsibility and are excited to help deliver a transformative year.
If you haven’t had a chance to view my April 9th Board Meeting Presentation, I highly encourage you to click here and watch. (The audio kicks in at 4:29. I apologize for our technical difficulty). During the meeting I present two of this year’s largest capital projects; 1. A major landscape overhaul and installation at the Flat Creek Entrance, and 2. Project Nexus; improvements to our Lakeside Amenity Complex that will deliver a more efficient and effective management team, as well as improved member experiences. From 59:25 to 1:45:00 I give the background, share details, present floor plans and 3d renderings, and answer questions for these two projects. Soon we’ll launch a dedicated webpage for capital replacements and improvements that will keep you apprised of progress.
ADDITIONAL NEWS AND UPDATES
1. The Food, Beverage and Events Committee voted unanimously to request the Board of Directors to revise the automatic 18% gratuity on all unsigned chits at the Food and Beverage Amenities, to 20%. This gratuity is added only to unsigned chits. A member will continue to retain the ability to provide any gratuity they would like to their signed chits. The Board unanimously supported the change and it will go into effect on May 1st. This will help ensure that our team members can earn a fair and livable wage, thus helping us recruit and retain the most talented individuals.
2. A new Hampton Lake mobile app for smart phones will launch by May 1st. The app is in the final stages of development and being beta tested by staff and Committee members. The Technology Committee has been instrumental in assisting our team in helping get this new tool setup. Please keep an eye out for dedicated emails regarding the app in the coming weeks. We’ll have Lunch and Learn sessions to support those that need help with installation and setup. Like any new technology, there may be bugs…please be patient and pass your feedback along to [email protected].
3. The Architectural Review Board (ARB) and Lake Management Corporation (LMC) have approved an underwater structure that can be mounted to bulkheads to attract fish and provide baitfish a safe haven. Appropriate structure in and around our lake is one of the top initiatives to support our fishery. We encourage you to download the form to learn more about the inexpensive DIY structure that can be added to your bulkhead.
4. The 2025 Aquatics Calendar is live and can be downloaded by clicking here. The seasonal/monthly schedule provides the plan for pool heating and programming. Please note that pool maintenance will take place between 7 – 9 am at Parkside and Lakeside respectively. The pools will remain open as maintenance is performed.
5. Citations will be issued for any motorized vehicles being driven on sidewalks. This includes e-bikes, electric scooters, and the like. Per 4.16.10 of our rules, they must stay in the road so that sidewalks are safe for pedestrians and their furry friends. Violations should be reported to our gatehouse. Owners are not permitted to confront violators. Many recent violators are children. Like many of you, I have children and expect mine to follow the rules and show others respect. Management will notify parents if their children are breaking the rules and will issue fines accordingly. Maintaining a safe environment is our top priority.
6. Our new Sunday evening dinners at Backwater Bill’s, as well as New Member Socials at the Barn on first Thursday of each month have both been a success. New and innovative programming will continue to launch. Your support of these initiatives is critical.
Best,
Adam Martin
