Hampton Lake Tomorrow: Participation Update

Hampton Lake: A Fresh Perspective with Adam Martin
June 12, 2025 – Participation Results

Following Adam Martin's presentation on June 12th, we asked small groups to engage in a conversation about what they valued most in our community and what advice they had for the leadership. (120 in attendance)We recorded the small group summary reports and then transcribed them for review and analysis. We then used ChatGPT to identify key themes.

The comments in the 6.12.25 transcript reflect a community deeply rooted in shared values. The primary values consistently demonstrated across all eight groups include:

1. Stewardship & Environmental Appreciation
  • Examples: Repeated emphasis on protecting the lake, landscaping, nature preserves, wildlife, and wetlands.
  • Underlying Value: A reverence for natural beauty and a collective sense of responsibility for preserving the environment that defines Hampton Lake.

2. Community Spirit & Neighborliness
  • Examples: Praise for neighborly behavior, inclusiveness, people waving hello, and offering help (e.g., lending bikes).
  • Underlying Value: A desire to maintain a welcoming, friendly culture where residents feel connected, seen, and supported.

3. Transparent & Accountable Leadership
  • Examples: Calls for clear communication, sharing the "why" behind decisions, consistency in rule enforcement, and accountability for staff and board accountability.
  • Underlying Value: Residents want leaders they can trust—leaders who listen, explain, and follow through.

4. Responsible Growth & Thoughtful Decision-Making
  • Examples: Concerns about development boundaries, amenity expansion, fitness center upkeep, and fiscal responsibility.
  • Underlying Value: A desire for smart, measured growth that respects the current quality of life with appropriate fiscal management and oversight.

5. Inclusion & Engagement
  • Examples: Interest in engaging younger families, having a diverse mix of ages, and creating forums for community input.
  • Underlying Value: Member input is encouraged and considered in shaping the future of the community.

6. Innovation & Continuous Improvement
  • Examples: Support for trying new things, expanding events, and rethinking underutilized amenities like Backwater Bill’s or the beer garden.
  • Underlying Value: A growth mindset—curious, adaptive, and open to evolution.

Together, these values suggest Hampton Lake is not just a place to live, it's a shared investment in lifestyle, belonging, and legacy. The community is saying: Let’s protect what we love, connect with intention, and lead with transparency and care.

As members of the Strategic Planning Committee, we’re grateful to everyone who participates in the strategic planning process. This is a shared conversation, and the more we collaborate, the more we shape the outcome.

Following the panel presentations, members were invited to record their answers to the same question posed to every panel member: “As we plan for the future of our community, what opportunities and threats should we take into consideration?”
The chart, available
here, lists small group responses, in no particular order.
